Who is this class for?
Artists & Makers interested in starting a small business
Creators of all mediums who want to offer their creative services publicly for the first time
Those who already have creative small businesses that are looking to tools, resources, & guidance to expand their scale or scope
This 2 hour Zoom workshop is all about taking your public creative practice to the next level and facilitating your success. This class will not just be conceptual-- for the first time I will be sharing tangible tools such as educational courses, cameras, books, software, and business strategies I have discovered and used along the way. I have experience as a maker in handmade production, working in direct to consumer online retail, wholesale, consignment, custom commissions, craft fairs, and experience working under contract, publishing a craft book, Students will have access to pdf lists with the tools and resources as well as time to ask questions and get brief consultation for their specific situation.
After the lecture, we will have a group discussion with Alicia, a Chicago-based designer and business owner behind jewelry brand Lingua Nigra. After earning graduation from F.IT., she lived and worked for 18 years in New York City, employed by small designers and larger jewelry brands while building her own unique line. She has experienced the gamut, from high production work to custom creations in multiple techniques and mediums. From working with international factories to designing in her studio, she wears a multitude of DIY hats as a small biz owner and has a wealth of experience.
